Perhaps you have travelled along Avenida Sáenz in Buenos Aires. It is a major artery in the southern part of the city. Today we will delve into the story of Avenida Sáenz.

Avenida Sáenz is not just any street. It is one of the busiest avenues in Buenos Aires. The avenue got its name from Dr. Antonio Sáenz. He was a priest and the first rector of the Universidad de Buenos Aires. Avenida Sáenz connects the Nueva Pompeya neighborhood with Lanús. It links them via the Puente Alsina, formerly known as Puente Uriburu. More than 20 bus lines have stops along this avenue.

The avenue runs entirely through the Nueva Pompeya neighborhood. It stretches until Avenida Caseros where it becomes Avenida Boedo. The Belgrano Sur railway line crosses Avenida Sáenz on a viaduct. You will find the Dr. Antonio Sáenz station there. A few meters before the crossing, Avenidas La Plata and Almafuerte merge. This creates a boulevard with four lanes in each direction. This boulevard, which includes the Metrobus, runs through Nueva Pompeya. It continues until it reaches Puente Alsina.

After crossing the busy Avenida Perito Moreno, Avenidas Rabanal and Amancio Alcorta begin. Avenida Sáenz ends at Puente Alsina. After crossing the bridge, it enters Lanús. There, its name changes to Avenida Remedios de Escalada de San Martín.

Traveling along Avenida Sáenz, you’ll see important intersections. Avenida Caseros marks its beginning as a continuation of Avenida Boedo. The Hospital Dr. José María Penna is located near Calle Uspallata. Further along, you’ll find the start of the Metrobus del Sur. This is near Calle Raulet and Achala. The viaduct of the Belgrano Sur line crosses the avenue. The Sáenz station is situated there. You’ll also find Plaza Nueva Pompeya and the Parroquia Nuestra Señora de Pompeya. Finally, Avenida Sáenz meets Avenida Amancio Alcorta. It ends at Puente Alsina, becoming Avenida Remedios de Escalada de San Martín.

Avenida Sáenz has a rich history. It was previously named Camino de las Tropas. The avenue is more than just a road. It is a vital part of Buenos Aires. It connects neighborhoods and carries the name of a respected figure. Keep this in mind as you traverse this bustling avenue. You are traveling a road with a story.
