They say Sacachispas was born from a movie a dream a wish. Right here in Villa Soldati stands the club. Its story begins in 1948. Two neighbors Roberto Gonzalez and Aldo Vazquez wanted an Evita championship team. Vazquez knew people at River Plate. He got some players to join their new team. They chose the name Sacachispas. It came from the film Pelota de Trapo a huge hit in Argentina.
Sacachispas reached the Evita Championship final. President Juan Peron and his wife Eva Duarte watched. Peron saw Sacachispas lacked a field. He gave them land to build a stadium. Their first stadium was on Lacarra and Corrales Avenue. October 17 1948 became the club’s official founding date. It honored Peron’s help. Sacachispas joined the Argentine Football Association in 1954. They won Primera D in their first season. Despite their early success Sacachispas never reached Primera Division.
In 2012 Sacachispas changed its name. It became Sacachispas Mercado Central Futbol Club. This was after an agreement with Club Atletico Mercado Central. Mercado Central paid Sacachispas $100,000 monthly. The deal was an alliance not a merger. However the agreement ended in 2014. Sacachispas returned to its original name and emblem.
The Sacachispas stadium Estadio Beto Larrosa stands proudly. It holds about 4000 spectators. It’s named after Roberto Larrosa a legendary goalkeeper. The club’s colors are lilac and white.
