Dedicated to a man who championed local commerce, Rue Michel Rosset offers more than meets the eye. This pedestrian street connects Rue Joannès Carret to Rue des Docks and Rue Félix Mangini. It faces the Jardin des Trembles. But who was Michel Rosset?
Michel Rosset was born in 1943 and died in 2015. He was a councilor for the ninth arrondissement. He worked to boost the commercial appeal of Vaise. Rosset also served as an IT director at Eiffage. He was president of the Saint Rambert tennis club. Plus, he led the alumni association of the Lazaristes. He was quite the accomplished man.
The Progrès newspaper even featured his portrait in an article. Honoring Michel Rosset, the city inaugurated this path on July 6, 2019. David Kimelfeld, then President of the Metropolis of Lyon was present. Gérard Collomb, the Mayor of Lyon also attended. Michel Le Faou, Vice-President of the Metropolis of Lyon, joined them. Bernard Bochard, Mayor of the 9th arrondissement, completed the group.
Michel Rosset is the third Rosset honored in Lyon. Antoine and Gabriel Rosset came before him. This street’s story is still unfolding.
Let’s look around us. The street itself is a concrete pedestrian walkway. Low vegetation flanks both sides. To the south, notice the two white buildings. Their lines are oblique and modern. They rise above a ground level covered in brick. A garden offers a visual break between them.
On the north side, the Rozan garden fence runs along the street. Then a concrete building rises behind the old brewery. This area has a rich history. In the 20th century, this land belonged to the Union des Brasseries Lyonnaises.
Today, development is ongoing. The Jardins sur Saône project is complete on the south side. This was designed by Plan B. The Jardin Philomène Rozan dates back to 2018. A building is currently under construction on the north side.
Interestingly, despite its modern and developing nature, Rue Michel Rosset currently hosts no shops, services, or art associations. It’s a street in progress. It is a tribute to a man who cared deeply about his community. Rue Michel Rosset represents a new chapter for this part of Lyon. It blends respect for the past with a vision for the future. It is a quiet reminder of local dedication. As we continue our tour, consider the impact one person can have on a city.
