Imagine guitar strings singing a sweet melody. This melody floats through the air right here on Rue Marcel Dadi. This street commemorates a Tunisian-born French guitar virtuoso. He was known for his finger-picking style.

Rue Marcel Dadi may seem like any other Parisian street. But it holds a special significance. It honors a man who brought American guitar styles to France. Marcel Dadi faithfully recreated the instrumental styles. He played like Chet Atkins Merle Travis and Jerry Reed.

Marcel Dadi was born in Sousse Tunisia in 1951. His family moved to Paris in 1954. He started playing guitar at age ten in 1961. The Beatles The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan inspired him. Bernard Photzer taught him flatpicking. Dadi developed his unique approach to flatpicking while working with Hugues Aufray.

Marcel Dadi shared his knowledge with others. He wrote instructional articles for Folk Music Review. He introduced his rigorous training method in March 1972. His method used a fingering chart.

Marcel Dadi released several LPs and instructional videos. His recordings included compositions by his American heroes. He also wrote original compositions in a similar style. His early LPs included a tablature booklet. Guitarists could learn the tunes themselves. Dadi often dedicated tunes to his friends. One such tune was Roger Chesterfield dedicated to Roger C. Field.

Marcel Dadi briefly lived in Eilat Israel in 1983. He lived there with his wife and young son. Later he moved back to France. Eric Clapton visited Marcel Dadi in Eilat in 1988.

Marcel Dadi’s life was tragically cut short. He died on July 17 1996. He was on TWA Flight 800 which exploded off the coast of Long Island. He was returning from the United States to France. He had been honored at Nashville’s Country Music Hall of Fame.

Marcel Dadi’s body was recovered. He is buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem Israel. He was only 44 years old.

Marcel Dadi achieved the honor as one of five Certified Guitar Players by Chet Atkins. This recognition underscores his significant contribution to guitar music.

Rue Marcel Dadi is a reminder of his legacy. It is a tribute to a musician who connected cultures through his music. This street in Thiais bears his name a lasting symbol of his influence. So next time you hear a beautiful finger-picked guitar tune remember Marcel Dadi. Remember this street and the music that lives on.
