This seemingly ordinary street holds a story of art, philanthropy, and Parisian history. The Rue Lacaze is a modest street in the 14th arrondissement. It stretches just 130 meters between the Rue de la Tombe-Issoire and the Rue du Père-Corentin. But its name carries a legacy far grander than its size.

The Rue Lacaze was named in 1875. It honors Louis La Caze, a physician and philanthropist. La Caze lived from 1799 to 1869. He bequeathed his collection of paintings to the Louvre Museum.

Before 1860, this area was part of the commune of Montrouge. At that time, the street was called Rue des Chemins-de-Fer. This name referenced the Orleans railway and the Ceinture railway.

The name change to Rue Lacaze was a decree. It recognized La Caze’s generous donation to the Louvre. His gift enriched France’s artistic heritage. It also immortalized his name on this Parisian street.

Imagine La Caze. He was a man of medicine with a passion for art. He amassed a significant collection. He then chose to share it with the nation. His act of generosity continues to inspire.

As you walk along the Rue Lacaze, consider its history. Think about the art that La Caze’s gift made accessible. This small street embodies a significant contribution. It links medicine, art, and the city of Paris.

The Rue Lacaze is more than just a street. It represents legacy. It is a reminder of how one person’s passion can enrich a nation. Take a moment to appreciate the story behind the name. The story behind the Rue Lacaze.
