The street bears the name of Brigadier General Jules Marie Ladreit de Lacharrière. He lived from 1806 to 1870. He died at the Battle of Champigny.

Rue Lacharrière’s origins are intertwined with the reconstruction of the Saint-Ambroise church. The previous church was demolished. This allowed the opening of the street. It was to run between the new square and Avenue Parmentier. This location was previously a dead end. It started from Avenue Parmentier. The new street was named Rue Saint-Irénée.
