Born on a summer day in 1897, Jean Dutilloy’s life began in Multien, a small town nestled in the Oise region of France. Rue Jean Dutilloy, here in Asnières-sur-Seine, stands as a tribute to this man. It’s a quiet street, but its name echoes a life cut short by war. Jean, a son of a percepteur, married Marie Desplechin in Roubaix in 1922. They settled down on Rue Maurice-Bokanowski, right here in Asnières, building a life together. But their peaceful existence was shattered by the onset of World War II. Jean became involved in the French Resistance, his bravery leading him down a dangerous path. Captured at an unknown date, Jean was imprisoned in Fresnes. Tragically, on December 14, 1941, he was executed. The French government recognized his sacrifice, posthumously awarding him the “Mort pour la France” distinction. He was also honored as a member of the French Forces of the Interior (FFI) and the French Resistance. Rue Jean Dutilloy in Asnières serves not just as a pathway, but as a poignant reminder of his courage and the ultimate price he paid for freedom. It’s a testament to a local hero who, though gone, remains a part of the fabric of this community.
