“What if a simple street held a century of family history?” This is Rue Hippolyte Pinson in Joinville-le-Pont. Right here before us lies more than just a Parisian street. Rue Hippolyte Pinson whispers tales of the Pinson family a dynasty that shaped this very town. For nearly a hundred years members of this family served as mayors or deputy mayors.

The street’s namesake Hippolyte Pinson was a joiner. He worked with the wood floated down the Marne River to the Joinville port. Wood was the lifeblood of Joinville-le-Pont’s economy in the early 1800s. Many Pinsons worked in this trade. Hippolyte later became a property owner. He even married in Nogent-sur-Marne in 1815. His father Laurent François Pinson had been a mayor himself. His brother Laurent-Nicolas also served as mayor later helping to rename the town Joinville-le-Pont in 1831.

Hippolyte’s political career flourished. He became deputy mayor in 1852 under Mayor Charles Pierre Chapsal. He continued serving even after Chapsal’s death in 1858. Hippolyte remained in office until 1870. During his time he signed numerous civil records. One remarkable record stands out. He married the renowned economist Léon Walras in 1869. Walras’s bride was a Joinvillaise.

Hippolyte’s life intertwines with the growth of Joinville-le-Pont. He witnessed its transformation. He played a part in shaping its identity. This street honors a man and a family deeply rooted in this community. The Pinsons legacy echoes through Rue Hippolyte Pinson. It’s a legacy that reminds us of local influence and family dedication.
