Henriette Adelaide married Ferdinand Maria in 1650. He became Elector of Bavaria the following year. Henriette Adelaide favored France in Bavarian foreign affairs. Her mother was part of the French royal family. This led to an alliance. France and Bavaria allied against Austria. Henriette’s daughter, Maria Anna, married Louis. Louis was the Dauphin of France.

Henriette Adelaide significantly contributed to Bavarian culture. She helped build Nymphenburg Palace. She also helped build the Theatine Church in Munich. Many Italian artists came to Munich because of her. She introduced Italian opera to the Bavarian court.

Henriette Adelaide died in Munich in 1676. She was buried in the Theatine Church. She and her husband built it to celebrate the birth of their son. Their son, Prince Maximilan II Emanuel, was born in 1662. He was the long-awaited heir to the Bavarian crown.
