Isn’t it intriguing how a simple street name can unlock a life story? Here on Rue Eugène Givors, we’re not just standing on pavement. We are walking through a piece of Parisian history.

This street carries the name of Eugène Givors. He was a man of the people. Born in 1858, he was the son of Théophine Bonnetier. Eugène was later recognized by Louis Joseph Givort. His mother married Louis in the town hall of Butte Montmartre.

Eugène’s father was said to be a fighter in the Commune. Growing up, Eugène Givors spent time with Commune survivors. He joined the socialist movement. After his military service, he became a follower of the Guesdist current. Eugène was a talented speaker. He was well received at national congresses. He represented various regions at socialist gatherings.

In 1912, Eugène Givors became deputy mayor of Arcueil-Cachan. He focused on vacation camps for children. Re-elected in 1919, he continued his work as deputy. Political disagreements led to his resignation. However, his dedication to public service remained strong.

After Arcueil and Cachan split, Givors became president. He was president of the special delegation. He was in charge of organizing elections in Arcueil in 1923. Though his list won votes, socialists could not retake the town hall. Givors became the first assistant.

The Tours split changed things for him. According to L’Humanité, many comrades remained in Arcueil. But there were also dissidents including Givors. This political division cost him his seat. He had been a general councilor since 1919.

Eugène Givors was also involved in cooperative movements. He was an administrator at “l’Unité sociale”. He founded the Arcueil supply office. In 1921, he married in Paris. Sadly, he died in 1926.

So, as we stand here on Rue Eugène Givors, remember the man behind the name. He was a socialist. He was a cooperative advocate. He was a dedicated public servant. This street is more than just a path. It is a reminder of a life dedicated to the community. It echoes the values of a man who fought for a better society.
