Called to military service in 1912, Émile Moutier rose to the rank of lieutenant by 1916. His bravery earned him a citation in 1915. Sadly, on July 28, 1916, Lieutenant Moutier was killed in action. He was only 25 years old. His captain described him as a beloved leader and excellent comrade. Émile Moutier was posthumously honored. He received a citation from the army. He was also made a knight of the Legion of Honor.
