The square’s story began in 1853. It was part of the grand transformations of Paris. These occurred during the Second Empire. Initially, it was named Place Pereire. The name honored the Pereire brothers. However, in 1973, the square was renamed. It then honored Alphonse Juin. He was a Marshal of France. Juin commanded the French Expeditionary Corps in Italy during 1943-1944. He also served as Resident General in Morocco from 1947-1951. Moreover, he became a member of the French Academy in 1952.
