Why is this street named Rue du Lieutenant-Colonel Prudhon? This street honors Clément Prudhon. He was a French Resistance leader during World War II.

Clément Prudhon, born in Argenteuil, was no ordinary man. He juggled roles as a railway worker and a sports enthusiast. Gymnastics was his passion early in life. He excelled at it.

But war changed everything. Prudhon joined the Resistance. He used aliases like Cluny and Gorre. He became a key figure. He linked various Resistance networks. His railway job gave him unique advantages. He could move around more freely.

Prudhon’s activities were extensive. He gathered intelligence. He organized sabotage missions. He recruited and trained fighters. He was eventually named head of Action Immédiate Fer. This translates to Immediate Action Iron. It was a Resistance group focused on sabotaging railway infrastructure.

His work was dangerous. In 1944, he was arrested. He was trying to get information about captured comrades. Despite attempts to free him, he was deported. Prudhon died in a German camp at Dora. He was only 33 years old.

After the war, France recognized Prudhon’s bravery. He was posthumously promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel. He received several honors. These included the Croix de Guerre and the Légion d’Honneur.
