A silent film set? Right here on Rue du Général Langlois? You might think of grand boulevards when you think of Paris movies. But this little street plays a role on the silver screen. This isn’t a grand avenue. Rue du Général Langlois is a private street. It hides in the 16th arrondissement. This street began its life in 1912 as “Villa Decamps”. It was later renamed to honor General Hippolyte Langlois (1839-1912). He was a distinguished figure. He was a general, senator, director of the École Supérieure de Guerre, and a member of the Académie Française. He probably never imagined his name would grace a street featured in a silent vampire film. The film is Louis Feuillade’s “Les Vampires” from 1915. The facade of number 3 makes several appearances in the third episode. It is a little piece of Parisian cinematic history tucked away on this quiet street.
