“Who was Paul Paret?” someone asks. Here on Rue du Docteur Paul Paret we honor a man whose legacy continues to improve lives in Marseille. This street carries more than just addresses. It carries a story of dedication and accessible healthcare.

Rue du Docteur Paul Paret is named after a doctor with a vision. In 1963 Dr Paul Paret bequeathed his medical office to the Mutualité des Travailleurs. This was the predecessor to the Grand Conseil de la Mutualité. He had one condition. The office must remain a place for local healthcare. This was for people who could not easily travel.

Today the Centre de Santé Paul Paret stands as a testament to his commitment. It is located in the 15th arrondissement of Marseille. The center provides a range of medical and dental services. These include cardiology, orthopedics and dermatology. Gynecology, homeopathy and general medicine are also available. Echography, urology, and ENT services can be found here. The center also offers pediatrics, pneumology-allergology and psychiatry. Midwives and radiologists complete the team. A laboratory and imaging service are also on-site.

The paramedical team includes nurses and podiatrists. Orthoptists are also available. Dental care is provided by surgeons and orthodontists. The Centre Médical et Dentaire Mutualiste Paul Paret is part of Oxance 13. This is the first non-profit healthcare network in Bouches-du-Rhône. Oxance 13 aims to offer accessible care to everyone. Their health centers provide comprehensive treatments. They offer a true care pathway to all insured individuals.

The street’s namesake center has been open for more than 50 years. It serves residents of the 15th and 16th arrondissements. People from Septèmes-les-Vallons and Pennes-Mirabeau also visit. Patients receive local care by appointment or in emergencies. The center offers sector 1 rates without extra charges.

In 2013 the center became a Maison Régionale de la Santé. This label guarantees access to healthcare in underserved areas. The Regional Council invested 311,000 euros in the center. 231,000 euros went to renovating the premises. This ensured access for people with reduced mobility. 80,000 euros funded new cardiology and ophthalmology equipment.

The tramway and bus lines serve Rue du Docteur Paul Paret. Tram line B2 stops at Saint Antoine Village. Bus lines 96 and 25 also stop here. Public parking is available at 57 Avenue de Saint-Antoine.

Think about Dr. Paul Paret. His gift of his practice ensured the continuation of healthcare. The Centre de Santé Paul Paret embodies his vision. It offers a range of medical and dental services to the community. As you walk along Rue du Docteur Paul Paret remember the man. Remember his dedication to accessible healthcare for all.
