This connection leads us to the Grgich Hills Estate, a Napa Valley winery founded by Miljenko “Mike” Grgich. Grgich achieved international acclaim at the 1976 “Paris Tasting”. His 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, crafted by him, was chosen as the finest white wine, stunning the world. This victory cemented Chardonnay’s place in the world of fine wines. It also forever linked the grape, and by extension streets named after it, to this moment of triumph. While Rue du Chardonnay in Argenteuil may not have vineyards, its name evokes the spirit of this celebrated wine. It’s a subtle nod to the legacy of a winemaker who made history in Paris.
