Tucked between Écouen and Saint-Denis, lies Rue d’Ézanville. This seemingly ordinary street holds a fascinating history intertwined with royalty, religion, and the rise of modern Paris. Rue d’Ézanville wasn’t always a bustling street. In the 7th century, this area, Iticiniscoam, encompassing both Ézanville and Écouen, was gifted by King Dagobert to the Saint-Denis Abbey. Rue d’Ézanville, then just a humble village, fell under the religious jurisdiction of Écouen, which in turn answered to the priory of Saint-Martin-des-Champs in Paris. Around 1030, a noble twist enters our story. Bouchard III of Montmorency bestowed upon his daughter the lands of Ézanville as inheritance. She, in turn, donated it to the convent of Notre-Dame in Saint-Paul-en-Beauvaisis. Fast forward to the 19th century, and Rue d’Ézanville remained a small farming village of about 200 inhabitants. Everything changed with the arrival of the railway in 1876. The train station at Écouen-Ézanville spurred rapid development, transforming the area into a desirable location for country homes, particularly in the charming Bois Bleu hamlet. Rue d’Ézanville’s growth continued into the 20th century, fueled by the local brick-making industry. This quiet street witnessed the transformation of a rural village into a suburb of Paris, a testament to the power of transportation and industry. The legacy of kings, convents, and the coming of the railway is etched into the very fabric of Rue d’Ézanville.
