How about a stroll down a street named after trees? We are standing at Rue des Noyers. It is a street with a story rooted in Lyon’s past. Rue des Noyers is not just a path. It is a journey through time.

Once, Rue des Noyers was a simple country lane. It served farms and grand estates. This was before the city expanded. The road stretched into the distance.

Look around. You will see how the city has grown around Rue des Noyers. Houses and buildings have sprung up since the 20th century. The most buildings were built from the 1950s onwards.

The street begins at Rue Fauconnet. It goes west towards Avenue Eisenhower and Rue des Battières. You will see the entrance to the Battières school across the road.

Notice the little path on the south side at the beginning of Rue des Noyers. It leads to a group of new buildings. As you look west, the Lyon mountains come into view. To the north, you can see the Monts d’Or.

Take a moment to observe the architecture. The buildings aren’t crowded together. There is still some unused land. Vegetation dominates the area.

There is a residence with a small square at the start. It faces some individual houses. The house at 4 bis is interesting. Its entrance has been turned into a window. It features beautiful blue shutters.

As you walk further, the Rue des Noyers narrows. It passes between garden walls. From numbers 14 to 18, there is a large area. It was built at the end of the 20th century. It features a beautiful group of buildings with balconies and tiled roofs.

Some properties are older. Look at number 20. It has a beautiful porch and a garden with sculpted boxwood. Large gates open onto long driveways. These serve one or more houses.

On the north side, Rue des Noyers ends with a large wall. Behind it, you can see apple trees and a football field. This belongs to the Elise Rivet center. The Allées du Bois residence was built around 2012. It replaced the center. It consists of three white buildings with flowered iron balconies and timber framing.

Note the south side. Here, there are three large apartment blocks from the 1950s.

Rue des Noyers is dedicated to trees. In fact, there is a Noyers property. You can find it in the street’s extension at 8 Rue de Tourvielle.

Rue des Noyers is a reminder of Lyon’s evolution. It changed from rural to urban over time. The city grew around it. It shows how Lyon embraced modernity while retaining its connection to nature.
