300 meters long that’s Rue de Rocroy in Paris’s 10th arrondissement. This unassuming street holds a surprising story. It’s named after Rocroy a town in the Ardennes department. There in 1643 the Great Condé won a famous victory over the Spanish. The proximity to Gare du Nord explains the street’s name. Originally it was called Rue des Jardins-Poissonnière. This was because it ran through gardens. The street was extended in 1850. Part of it was removed to make way for Lariboisière Hospital. Number 3 held the offices of Pages de Gloire during World War I. Later the children’s magazine L’Intrépide had its administration there. Number 6 houses the Saint-Vincent de Paul school. Rue de Rocroy a quiet street today echoes with the sounds of history. A testament to battles won and lives lived. It silently witnesses the Parisian rhythm. A simple street with a rich past. Don’t forget to explore its quiet charm.
