Givaudan’s former presence looms large on Rue de Nice. This Lyon street offers more than meets the eye. Rue de Nice begins at the end of Impasse de la Baudette. It ends on Rue Cazeneuve. The street is offset from Rue Denis.

Rue de Nice finds itself in Lyon’s 8th arrondissement. A barrier stops traffic at number 14. This barrier creates a strange atmosphere. The north part of the street is deserted. It is surprisingly calm. The south part becomes an impasse of Rue Cazeneuve.

On the east side, a large red iron gate faces the impasse. A long wall runs along this side. The west side features individual houses. Gardens separate them. Walls hide some of them.

The last plot on Rue de Nice houses car wash cabins. In 2019, construction began on the corner of Rue Cazeneuve. This was after the alley at number 26. That alley leads to a building set back from the street.

Rue de Nice is named after Nice. Nice is a city of 400000 people. It is 500 kilometers southeast of Lyon. The reason for the street’s name remains a mystery.

Rue de Nice was opened in the 1920s or 1930s. Transformation began on the east side in 2019. Givaudan closed on the west side. This closure should lead to changes there as well.

Currently, a car wash operates on Rue de Nice. The portail provides secondary access to Givaudan.

To get here via public transport, you can take the bus. Lines 26, 34, 35, C16 and C25 all stop nearby. The train line C23 is also an option. Metro line D will get you close. Tram lines T2, T4 and T6 are other options. The closest tram and bus stop is Petite Guille. It is a three-minute walk from Rue de Nice.

Rue de Nice may seem like any other street. Yet its unique atmosphere and history set it apart. The blend of residential and commercial. The barrier creating a quiet northern section. These elements contribute to its character. The street’s evolution reflects Lyon’s own changes. Rue de Nice offers a glimpse into the city’s past and present. It shows its ongoing transformation.
