What if a Parisian street held a secret from World War II? Welcome to Rue de la Sécurité Parisienne in Chevilly-Larue. This unassuming street in the suburbs holds a significant piece of history. It’s not marked by grand monuments or bustling crowds. Its quiet existence belies a thrilling past.

Rue de la Sécurité Parisienne is named after a crucial resistance network. The Sécurité Parisienne was more than just a name. It was a network of firefighters. They risked their lives daily. Their bravery saved countless lives and helped liberate Paris.

Imagine these brave men and women. They were firefighters by day. By night they were secret agents. They gathered intelligence. They sabotaged German operations. They even helped supply the Maquis. These were resistance fighters in the forests. They were crucial to General de Gaulle’s return to Paris. Secretly the Sécurité Parisienne moved weapons throughout Paris. They delivered supplies to the Maquis near Nemours. This was a vital lifeline for these crucial resistance fighters.

One daring mission involved the diversion of gasoline. Sergeant-Chef Maurice Lemaire risked everything. He drove a van filled with fuel. It was stolen from the Dupleix district. He delivered it to the Maquis in the dead of night. He also brought them food and blankets. These were taken from the militias.

The Sécurité Parisienne was officially formed in 1942. Captain Frédéric Curie led the group. He was later promoted to Battalion Chief. He played a vital role in the liberation. The network grew rapidly. By the liberation it boasted 653 men across six companies. They were supported by a command company. They even printed and distributed the first issue of L’Information officielle des armées de la République. This was the first Parisian newspaper after the liberation. They bravely handed out 180,000 copies amidst the fighting.

On August 20 1944 the Sécurité Parisienne took command of the Paris Fire Brigade. Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Camus became the head. Captain Curie became his deputy. Their bravery and dedication ensured the safe passage of General de Gaulle through Paris. Their actions were crucial to the success of the liberation.
