The last owner’s name lingers. Rue David. That’s the story. A short straight street it is. Rue David begins near Place Rouget de l’Isle. It’s close to Avenue Félix Faure. It ends at Rue du Dauphiné. The entrance is lovely. Cut stone creates small terraces. The ironwork on the east building is beautiful. The rest is a bit haphazard. Simple one or two-story houses line part of the street. Buildings from the latter half of the 20th century are built on different plans. They face in different directions. Rue David keeps the name of the last landowner. There was a David factory on Rue Jeanne d’Arc. Another David lived in Lyon. Louis David was a curator at the Musée Guimet. He died in 2016. His son Bruno David became director of the Paris natural history museum. Don’t confuse Rue David with Rue Germain David or Rue du Petit David. Rue David opened in the early 20th century. A funny thing happened in 1989. Two masked men robbed a cafe. They were arrested easily. They worked at the police station. They went there every morning. The Agapé association does charity work there. Number 22 was once a cheese shop. Fromagerie Sans Soucis was a great cheese shop. It opened in 1976. It closed in 2009. Now there is a pizzeria a bar and a garage. The street is well connected. Buses 25 C11 C13 and C16 stop nearby. So do trains C12 and C18. The D metro line is close too. The T3 light rail is also close by. Rue David a small street with a big history. A blend of the past and present. A testament to Lyon’s rich past. A place that whispers stories. Of cheesemakers and police officers. Of landowners and museums. Rue David. Remember the name.
