It stretched between Rue de la Source and Rue de la Cure. A decree on May 23, 1863, classified it within Parisian road networks. A subsequent decree on August 24, 1864, gave it its current name.
The street is named after Philippe de Courcillon. He was the Marquis de Dangeau. He was a French diplomat and memorialist who lived from 1638 to 1720. Born at the Château de Dangeau, he is renowned for his journal. It documents life at the Versailles court under Louis XIV.
Once a longer path, Rue Dangeau has been altered over time. A section between Rue de la Source and Avenue Mozart became Rue Chamfort. Another section connecting Rue Chamfort to the current Rue Dangeau was removed during the construction of Avenue Mozart. The final section between Avenue Mozart and Rue de la Cure was removed by a decree on May 14, 1883.
