“A street named after people? How peculiar!” Rue Claude le Pelletier might sound unassuming at first, but its namesake holds a fascinating connection to the heart of Paris. You see, this street, nestled quietly in Villeneuve-le-Roi, borrows its name from another Rue le Pelletier, a street located in the bustling 9th arrondissement of Paris. This Parisian street, and in turn our own Rue Claude le Pelletier, pays homage to Louis Le Peletier de Morfontaine, who held the prestigious, albeit feudal, position of Provost of the Merchants of Paris. His role, a powerful one in its time, was ultimately abolished during the tumultuous French Revolution.
