“Place Boieldieu”: an elegant name for a square in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris. It might not be a place you’d plan to visit, but there are many secrets hidden in this square. The Place was once known as “Place des Italiens”. It was just a small plaza behind the Theater National de l’Opera-Comique until 1852, when it got its present name in honor of the famous composer Francois-Adrien Boieldieu. There were some magnificent gardens behind the Hotel de Choiseul, but the hotel was unfortunately demolished. But the gardens would soon be transformed. Reboul de Villeneuve, a local company, was granted permission to use the space to build a theater for the Italian comedies and to create a plaza with a space of 400 toises. The name “Place des Italiens” became the symbol of this place. Today, the Place Boieldieu remains a haven of tranquility amidst the bustling city. If you’re looking for a place to escape the noise and crowds, then the Place Boieldieu is the perfect place for you. You can enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, soak up the sun on one of the benches, or simply relax and admire the beautiful architecture. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can take a stroll to the Theater National de l’Opera-Comique. It is considered one of the most important centers for its unique style: opéra-comique. Just a few steps further, you will be greeted by Rue Favart, a street named after one of the founders of the theater.
