Royal Oak Primary School

In 1912, just a stone’s throw from Royal Oak Primary School, a lion cub allegedly escaped its enclosure at Boyd Zoo. It wandered into a nearby paddock, much to the surprise of the cows and their calves. The little cub, far from being the ferocious beast of legend, was quickly cornered by the protective herd until its owner could lasso it and return it home. Royal Oak Primary School, now a vibrant hub of learning and community, stands as a testament to the area’s rich and sometimes quirky history. The school, with its history spanning over 75 years, is located in a suburb named after the Royal Oak Hotel, which once stood at the bustling Royal Oak Roundabout. Royal Oak Primary School is divided into two teams: the Royal Acorns (Years 0-3) and the Royal Oaks (Years 4-6). The school prides itself on its inclusive environment, offering strong support for students with special educational needs and English language learners. The school’s motto, “Manaaki, Whakaute, Whakamana” meaning “Care, Respect, Empower,” reflects their commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals.
