He worked his way up to deputy director. Guerrero inspired young people and encouraged them to give back. This park now stands as a testament to his commitment.
Roy G. Guerrero Colorado River Metro Park almost looked very different. Back in 1995, there was a proposal to build a sports stadium here. Austin was considering bringing in a minor league baseball team. They would have been called the Austin Swing. The city even held a public vote on a bond to help fund the stadium. But voters rejected the idea. They were concerned about new taxes. They mistrusted the city council.
