What secrets lie hidden beneath the bustling streets of Paris? Today, we’re standing before a road that leads to one such secret: Route l’Asile National. This unassuming road, nestled within the Bois de Vincennes park, holds a connection to a piece of Parisian history that’s both intriguing and somber.
Route l’Asile National, as its name suggests, once led to the “Asile National de Vincennes”. This was a large psychiatric hospital, formerly known as the “Asile Impérial”. Sadly, much of its history has faded with time. What we do know is that it played a significant role in the lives of many Parisians during a period when mental health was poorly understood.
While the hospital buildings themselves are gone, the route still serves as a reminder of their existence.
