Rotary Park’s story began in 1935. The Rotary Club of Melbourne and the City of Melbourne joined forces. Paul Harris, Rotary’s founder, planted the first tree during his only trip to Australia.
Since then, Rotary Park has become a special place. Trees are dedicated to honor Rotarians. They also mark important Rotary events. Over 50 prominent Rotarians are recognized here. Many were World Presidents of Rotary.
Peace and conflict resolution are key for Rotary. Rotary Melbourne created a public art installation here. It features four Peace Bells in Rotary Melbourne Peace Park. The bells were officially opened during the Rotary International Convention in May 2023. They were chosen as the convention’s legacy project. This makes it the first legacy project of any convention.
