Did anyone ever tell you how Ronald Reagan’s statue ended up in London? It might seem a little out of place at first. An American president immortalized in bronze right here in Grosvenor Square. But it actually speaks volumes about the special relationship between the US and the UK. This statue, a towering 10ft bronze, was unveiled in 2011 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Reagan’s birth. It stands as a testament to the “special relationship” that Reagan and Margaret Thatcher fostered during their time in office. Although Thatcher couldn’t attend the unveiling due to her failing health, her words resonated: “Ronald Reagan was a great president and a great man – a true leader for our times.” He was a man who championed freedom and stood as a staunch ally to Britain. Even though the US Embassy plans to move from Grosvenor Square, this statue, along with those of other American presidents like Roosevelt and Eisenhower, will remain. A permanent reminder of the enduring bond between two nations.
