The town was a vital source of food for travellers heading to the gold fields. It was also a stopping point for travelers. Today, the buildings serve as quaint shops and cafes. If you have an hour to spare, I recommend checking out the Romsey Mechanics Institute. It was built in 1884, and its history is as rich as the town itself. You can learn all about its colourful past on the institute’s website. This beautiful building has a rich past filled with exciting events like roller-skating and boxing. It was the social hub of Romsey for decades and hosted a variety of events. It was the place to be and, as you can see, times have changed but the history still remains in the walls.
