Captain Cook’s gaze swept across the waters. He named it Cape Rodney after Admiral Sir George Brydges Rodney. This area now known as Rodney District holds a rich history. From 1989 to 2010 Rodney District was a thriving local government area. It encompassed Helensville Borough and Rodney County. Kawau Island was also part of this impressive district. The district council’s seat resided in Orewa.
