Remember September 15 1950? That day marked the beginning of something special. It was the day Rev Thomas H Wade Sr opened the doors of Rock of Ages Baptist Church.
Rock of Ages Baptist Church started in the Old Lycem Hall. This hall was located at 1309 Madison Street in Maywood. The church began with only two members. These members were Rev Wade’s wife and son. Despite its small start Rock of Ages Baptist Church was destined for greatness.
The church’s purpose was clear. It aimed to reach the least in society. It sought to reclaim the lost to Christ. It also wanted to comfort those downtrodden in spirit.
Under Rev Wade’s leadership Rock of Ages experienced great growth. It eventually moved to a new location at 1642 S 15th Avenue in Maywood.
After Rev Wade’s passing the Lord sent another visionary. Rev Marvin E Wiley carried on the vision for Rock of Ages Baptist Church. He brought a new and youthful spark. As a result membership increased rapidly.
In 1995 a new multi-million dollar building was constructed. It was built at the original location of the Old Lycem. The community recognized it as an organization. It effectively ministered to the spiritual emotional financial physical and social needs of the community.
Since Pastor Wiley’s installation membership at Rock of Ages has grown significantly. It grew from 400 to more than 4000. Vision of Restoration Inc or VOR was also founded. It is a 501c3 organization. Its purpose is to restore broken lives in Maywood and surrounding communities.
In October 2003 the ministry expanded. It included a Saturday night worship in Bolingbrook Illinois. This was to meet the needs of members and residents in the western suburban areas of Chicago.
Under Pastor Wiley’s leadership the TH Wade Foundation Center opened. It is a four-level multi-million dollar facility. It opened on Thanksgiving Day 2004. This new 40000 sq feet edifice offers many additional resources. These resources are for training education and businesses.
Rock of Ages Baptist Church accepts tithes and offerings. There is a secured drop box on the west side entrance of the church. Online giving is also available. It is a simple and secure way for donors to give.

New members can attend the Foundation of the Faith Classes. Corporate prayer is held in the sanctuary. It takes place from 900 AM to 915 AM on Sunday mornings.
Rock of Ages Baptist Church has a rich history. It continues to serve its community. It offers various ministries and programs. These include children’s ministry youth ministry and weekly small groups. There are also ministries for men women senior adults and a choir. The church provides community service and a food pantry.
The mission of Rock of Ages Baptist Church is clear. It ministers to the misery of the masses with the mercy of the master. The vision is to be compassionate Christians. They are empowered by Christ. They reach beyond the church walls. They meet the holistic needs of their community.
