“What would it take to revitalize a church?” That’s the question Robinwood Baptist Church faced. It needed a jump start. Let me tell you the story of Robinwood Baptist Church’s journey. It is a story of faith and community.
Robinwood Baptist Church once saw a changing community. Instead of adapting, it sought to protect itself. This led to the construction of the Robinwood Christian Academy. The academy was intended for church members’ children.
Years passed. The RCA building began to fall apart. Leaders saw this as a sign. Tearing it down would be an act of repentance for Robinwood Baptist Church. It would symbolize a new direction.
In 2019, the church took the first step. They removed all electrical work from the RCA building. Both the English and Spanish congregations raised over $50000 to make it happen. Despite some members leaving who longed for “the glory days”, Robinwood Baptist Church saw a glimpse of hope. Sixteen new believers were baptized in one day.
The COVID-19 pandemic brought new challenges. Online services became the norm. Upon returning, finances were tight. The church had only months left to pay its bills.
Dr. Bob Dean of the Dallas Baptist Association offered help. He introduced the “Next Steps Program.” This led to the recognition of another need. A large African American population was being neglected.
God brought Trinity Love Church to their attention. TLC needed a place to meet. Robinwood Baptist Church had the space. A partnership was formed. It blessed all churches involved. The three largest ethnic groups in the community were now represented.
Sharing ownership with TLC was the next step. The Southern Baptists of Texas Foundation approved a joint loan. It included enough money to tear down the RCA Building.
Pastor Larry Brice of TLC emphasized collaboration. He highlighted the importance of witnessing, welcoming, and winning the community. The churches are showing the community that God is no respecter of persons and neither are they.
Today, Robinwood Baptist Church’s campus has three congregations. They share one mission. They want to reach everyone in their community for Jesus Christ. The demolition of the Academy Building is underway. It is in partnership with believers of all ethnicities. Robinwood Baptist Church is well on its way to reaching its goal. It is a testament to faith and perseverance.
