On the corner of EDSA and Pioneer Street, a ghost of retail past whispers stories of bustling crowds and vibrant activity. This is Robinsons Forum. It once stood as a beacon of modern shopping, a place where memories were forged amidst the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the chatter of excited shoppers. Robinsons Forum opened its doors in 2004. It was the 18th mall in the Robinsons chain and the first in Mandaluyong. Originally named Robinsons Place Pioneer, it sought to be the heart of the Cybergate Complex. This complex was envisioned as a cyber hub, a testament to the burgeoning tech scene in the city. Robinsons Forum was designed to meet every need of those working and living in the Cybergate Complex. It offered a blend of retail therapy, dining delights, and entertainment. Imagine the excitement of catching the latest Hollywood blockbuster after a satisfying meal at the food court, a hub of diverse culinary offerings. Robinsons Forum wasn’t just about shopping and entertainment. It was a community space. In its later years, it served as a vital vaccination center during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thousands of Mandalenos received their vaccines and booster shots within its walls. This act of service cemented its place as a pillar of the community. Sadly, Robinsons Forum closed its doors in April 2022. The closure marked the end of an era. But from the ashes of the old, a new phoenix is set to rise. The site is currently undergoing redevelopment. A new, upscale shopping mall and a cluster of state-of-the-art green office buildings, known as “The Jewel”, are planned. Robinsons Forum may be gone, but its legacy will live on in the memories of those who frequented its halls and in the exciting future it has paved the way for.
