Picture a humble Sunday School in a home. Eighteen souls gathered in October 1938. This was the seed that blossomed into Roberts Road Bible Church. That first meeting was led by Gustave Le Grand. He had a vision. He wanted to build a church. The Roberts Road Bible Church story began with a dream and a small group of dedicated believers.
Roberts Road Bible Church wasn’t always on Roberts Road. It started as The Gertrude Highlands Gospel Tabernacle. A small 16 by 32 foot building was built in January 1939 near 85th and 77th Court. Gustave and eight men worked tirelessly on that New Year’s Day. A year later the building doubled in size.
The church found its permanent home in 1946. Pastor Le Grand purchased a lot on Roberts Road. The name changed reflecting its new location. A 35 by 50 foot basement was constructed. Two souls found faith in Christ that first evening.
Through the years Roberts Road Bible Church saw many changes. Many pastors served. Each contributed to the church’s growth and its unique identity. The church grew. A larger building was constructed and dedicated in 1956. Much of the work was done by the congregation. This demonstrates the community’s collective effort and strong faith.
Expansion continued. In 1978 a new church building was constructed. It reflects the church’s continued expansion and thriving ministry. Roberts Road Bible Church’s story is one of perseverance. It’s a story of faith amid challenges. It’s a tale of community built on shared devotion. The church has celebrated numerous anniversaries. It has consistently served the community. It has offered hope and spiritual guidance for decades.
