After graduating from high school in Bamberg, Robert Sauer served in World War I. He then pursued mathematics and physics at the Technical University of Munich. In 1925, Robert Sauer earned his doctorate. His dissertation explored spatial division. It was created by a system of planes where every four planes intersect at one point.
Robert Sauer’s academic career began as a lecturer. He taught descriptive geometry at the Technical University of Munich. By 1937, he became a full professor at TH Aachen. There, he taught applied mathematics and descriptive geometry.
During World War II, Robert Sauer’s expertise took a dramatic turn. He worked on ballistics and supersonic gas dynamics. He even constructed analog computers. These machines helped solve differential equations. These calculations were related to the trajectories of V-1 and V-2 rockets.
