“A century of brotherhood etched in stone” whispers the Roanoke Lodge No 668 A F & A M plaque. Before you stands a testament to a rich Masonic history in Roanoke Texas. This isn’t just a plaque. It’s a portal to the past.

This unassuming marker commemorates Roanoke Lodge No 668. Established in 1888 this lodge boasts a fascinating journey. It’s a story of perseverance resilience and community. The lodge’s roots trace back even further to 1871. A group of men then petitioned the Grand Lodge of Texas. Their dream was to create their own Masonic lodge in the then burgeoning settlement of Roanoke.

The original lodge W C Young Lodge 349 faced challenges. In 1885 it dissolved due to inconsistent meetings and a lack of a permanent home. This didn’t deter the Masons’ spirit. Undeterred they sought and obtained a new charter in 1888 forming Roanoke Lodge No 668.

Finding a permanent home proved difficult. For years the lodge members met in various rented spaces. The search for a suitable meeting place continued for years. Finally in 1908 they purchased a lot on Oak and Austin Streets. They built a two-story building. This building wasn’t just for lodge meetings. It served the whole community. It hosted banquets school events and gatherings. It was the heart of Roanoke.

The Roanoke Lodge No 668 A F & A M wasn’t just a building. It was a place where men gathered. They bonded over shared values. They worked together. They supported each other and their community. The plaque you see today isn’t just a commemoration of a building. It represents a powerful symbol of brotherhood service and enduring legacy. It celebrates more than a century of fellowship and community spirit. This place resonates with the spirit of those who built it. It thrives today thanks to those who continue its traditions. Step back in time and imagine. Picture the lively events the important decisions and the countless bonds forged within these walls. The Roanoke Lodge No 668 A F & A M plaque is more than a marker.
