Established on July 11 1969 Rizal Technological University RTU stands proudly before you. Its story began not as a university but as the College of Rizal. This humble institution first opened its doors on July 14 1969. It offered courses in business administration education and liberal arts. The original campus was in the Province of Rizal.
A significant turning point arrived on March 20 1975. The College of Rizal in Pasig and the Rizal Technical High School in Mandaluyong merged. This merger transformed the institution into the Rizal Technological Colleges RTC. Presidential Decree No 674 authorized the expansion of its curriculum. It also promoted research in natural resource development and conservation. The decree was a boost to the college’s organization and support.
However the transfer of Pasig and Mandaluyong to the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Manila Commission in 1975 created a financial challenge for the Province of Rizal. The province could no longer support the colleges. Facing the possibility of closure the leadership faculty and students fought to save RTC. Their efforts culminated in the nationalization of the institution.
With support from then Metropolitan Manila Governor Imelda Marcos the RTC constituency and student organizations successfully advocated for national funding. President Ferdinand E Marcos signed Presidential Decree 1341-A on April 1 1978. This decree officially converted the Rizal Technological Colleges into a state college. The decree’s arrival on October 13 1978 became the basis for the university’s annual celebrations.
Nineteen years later on October 11 1997 Republic Act No 8365 elevated the college to university status. Rizal Technological University RTU was born. Its mission broadened. It now provides instruction in engineering technology education business and entrepreneurship. RTU also actively promotes research extension and advanced studies.
