Here, on this corner of Lagow Street, stands Riverside Baptist Church, its history woven into the very fabric of Dallas. In 1887, a group of determined souls met under a bush, envisioning a place of worship where faith would flourish. Their vision, born beneath that humble canopy, led to the establishment of this very church. The Riverside Missionary Baptist Church was founded on the legacy of Reverend Calvin Morris, their first pastor, a man whose heart burned with the desire to guide his flock. Under his leadership, a small group became a beacon of hope in the community. The original location, perched on West Mitchell Road, welcomed generations of worshippers and grew with time. The early years saw a parade of devoted pastors, each contributing to the church’s evolving story. In 1960, Pastor Ollie Durrie White, recognizing the expanding congregation, launched an ambitious renovation project. The church expanded, welcoming new pews, classrooms, and a baptismal pool, a symbol of cleansing and rebirth. Pastor White’s vision led them to a new location at 3560 South Third Street. Riverside Baptist Church, steadfast in its faith, continued to thrive. The church, a symbol of community resilience, stands as a testament to the enduring power of faith.
