Have you ever heard of the River Roding? It’s London’s third-longest river. The River Roding begins near Stanstead Airport and flows through Essex and Greater London. The river flows all the way to the River Thames, forming Barking Creek at its mouth. The river passes through a group of villages called “The Rodings” in Essex. Their names all have “Roding” in them. After passing through Chipping Ongar, the Roding flows under the M25 motorway. It then runs through the Roding Valley Meadows, a nature reserve. It’s full of meadows and flowers. It’s a beautiful place. The Roding passes through Ilford and Barking. It’s named after the Anglo-Saxon leader, Hroda. The lower part of the river was called the Hyle. And it was used to transport goods and people for centuries. Today, you can see the River Roding as it flows through London. The River Roding is a part of London’s history.
