Journey back to 1517. The von Pflugk family proudly owns Rittergut Mockau. Imagine the bustling activity of this grand estate. Rittergut Mockau has witnessed centuries of history. Its story is one of constant change. Numerous families have called this place home. The Pfarrer Wirth, Hofrat Platz, and the Semmel family all left their mark on Rittergut Mockau. The Gontard family owned the estate from 1839 to 1912. Adolph Gontard, a prominent member of the family, added a beautiful chestnut avenue to the estate’s park in 1863. Tragedy struck in 1866 when a devastating fire swept through Rittergut Mockau. The Gontard mansion and a long wing, housing the estate manager’s residence, servants’ quarters, and stables, were destroyed. These buildings were meticulously reconstructed in 1868, rising from the ashes. Today, the entrance gate stands as the oldest monument of this historic estate. In 1912, the city of Leipzig acquired Rittergut Mockau for a substantial sum of 4.8 million marks. Sadly, time has taken its toll on the estate. The once-grand mansion now stands in ruins. The administrative building and entrance gate are in a state of disrepair. The park, once vibrant and manicured, is now overgrown and wild. Despite its current state of decay, Rittergut Mockau retains a powerful aura. It whispers tales of bygone eras, of families who lived and loved within its walls. It serves as a poignant reminder of the passage of time and the ever-changing fortunes of grand estates.
