This makes it the largest of the three bridges that cross the extensive railway area in Aarhus, outshining both Bruunsbro and Frederiksbro. Inaugurated on June 1, 1938, Ringgadebroen was a feat of modern engineering. It was a pioneering structure, built not with traditional steel but with innovative concrete construction. The bridge served a vital purpose. It unified the sprawling Aarhus area, which had been previously divided by the extensive railway system. In the 1970s, the city grew, and so did Ringgadebroen. It underwent an expansion in 1970-1971 to accommodate the increasing traffic. In more recent times, Ringgadebroen faced a challenge. In 2007, cracks appeared, and bits of concrete began to fall. This prompted quick action from DSB, who contacted Aarhus Kommune. Engineers inspected the bridge and declared it safe. However, further incidents led to the removal of loose concrete to ensure ongoing safety. That same year, Ringgadebroen also received a new left-turn lane onto Værkmestergade, further improving its functionality. So, next time you cross Ringgadebroen, remember its story.
