Doesn’t Richmond High School Gleadell Street Campus stand as a testament to community resilience? Richmond High School’s story is one of rebirth and a commitment to education. The Richmond High School Gleadell Street Campus is the sports campus. The academic campus is located on Griffiths Street.
In 1993, its predecessor Richmond Secondary College faced closure. The Kennett Government listed it. This sparked 360 days of protests endorsed by the Victorian Trades Hall Council. Police evicted the protesters. Their crowd dispersal methods became subject of a parliamentary inquiry. Demonstrators received compensation from the Bracks Government in 2000.
The original Richmond Secondary College buildings became part of Melbourne Girls College in 1994. But the need for a local high school in Richmond remained.
Fast forward to 2014. The Labor Party pledged to build a new Richmond High School if elected. In 2016, the Labor Government announced plans to build it. The new Richmond High School opened in 2018 on Gleadell Street. A second campus followed on Griffiths Street in 2019.

Before Richmond High School was established here, the building was the Richmond Domestic Arts School. It opened in 1926. The building was deemed unsafe and rebuilt in 1954. In 1969 it was renamed Richmond Girls High School.
Richmond Girls High School closed in 1993. The school buildings are now part of Lynall Hall Community School. Some Richmond Girls High School students went to Melbourne Girls’ College. The new Richmond High School pays homage to its heritage schools.
