“Educating Successful Women of the Future.” These words, proudly displayed on the school’s emblem, encapsulate the very essence of Ricards Lodge High School. Right before you stands more than just a building; it’s a living testament to generations of young women empowered to reach their full potential. Founded in 1924 as Wimbledon Day Commercial School for girls, Ricards Lodge began its journey in a humble setting—the technical college in Gladstone Road. In those early days, it catered to a mere 120 students, offering a two-year course in business studies and general subjects. The school quickly earned a stellar reputation under the leadership of its first headmistress, Miss Humphrey. Her untimely death in 1930 left a void eventually filled by Miss Turnbull, who, at the time, became the youngest headmistress in Surrey. The war years proved challenging, forcing the school to relocate multiple times, yet the spirit of Ricards Lodge remained undimmed. Finally, they found a permanent home here at Ricards Lodge. Over time, the school expanded, its grounds encompassing not just the lodge itself, but also a manor house, a specialized technology department, and a new block housing art, music, drama, and humanities departments. The echoes of laughter and learning blend with the whispers of history as you walk these halls. Ricards Lodge carries a legacy of resilience, ambition, and academic excellence, reminding us that empowering young women is not just a goal—it’s a legacy worth upholding.
