“Love and transformation through Jesus Christ” is the motto of today’s stop. Here at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Dallas. This welcoming community enriches spiritual journeys. It fosters community connections too.
The Church encourages everyone to participate. That includes skeptics and long-time believers. Resurrection Lutheran Church promotes inclusivity. It serves those in need.
Resurrection Lutheran Church addresses local challenges. Healthcare and well-being are key concerns. The Church engages in social justice. It also does community service. You can experience the love of God in action. You can contribute to meaningful change. Join their worship or outreach efforts.
But this isn’t the original location. Let’s jump back in time. It is Palm Sunday in 1974. The first worship service occurred at Christie Elementary School. 168 people attended.
The congregation approved a building proposal in December 1975. It cost $350,000. Groundbreaking began on September 26, 1976 during showers.
The church grew fast. It was located in rapidly expanding Plano. Plano is a northern suburb of Dallas. Early members remember dirt roads. They recall a cotton patch. The butterfly symbolizes Christ’s Resurrection. The cotton boll symbolized the cotton patch site. It told of the first church building’s location.
Resurrection Lutheran Church was the fastest growing mission. It was the fastest growing in the Lutheran Church of America. Resurrection had several more groundbreaking ceremonies. It finally moved into its current facility in July 1993. The current sanctuary seats 550 to 625. The chapel seats 75 to 90.
A variety of ministries have been established. Stephen Ministry is one. Christ Care is another. There are youth and adult choirs. Handbell choirs also exist. Many Bible study groups and fellowship activities take place. Prayer Ministry is important. Prime Timers is for Senior Citizens. There’s a Singles Dinner Group too. Boy Scouts are active. Women of the ELCA meet. They host Blood Drives. They organize Social Ministry activities. These include Oaks Indian Mission. They also run a Christmas Gift Project. Other activities are Mission Partners and a School Supply Project. People play basketball and softball. There are also youth groups.
The RLC Preschool programs started on August 3, 1997. It was known as the ARK Preschool. The ARK closed in the fall of 2019. Declining enrollment led to its closure.
Resurrection continues its rich history of service. It wants to change lives. It wants them to reflect the life of Christ.
