Have you ever heard of a school that was once a farm? This is Resurrection High School. It’s a private Catholic all-girls school, right here in Chicago. Resurrection High School was founded by the Sisters of the Resurrection, a Catholic religious order. Sister Anne Strzelecka C.R. arrived in Chicago on February 2, 1900, to work with students in Catholic schools. She purchased land in northwest Chicago and in 1915, she opened Resurrection Academy. It was an elementary school and boarding school for girls. In 1920, she then purchased 52 acres of land that was once an onion farm. Resurrection Medical Center now stands on that ground. In 1922, Sister Anne founded Resurrection High School. Four years later, the school graduated its first class of four young women. The school was small then, but it grew and in 1962, it opened a new, much larger building. Today Resurrection High School counts more than 12,000 alumnae in 83 graduating classes, so if you’re thinking of Resurrection High School for your daughter, you’ll be in good company.
