“A church built on prayer and a seven-day miracle.” That’s how the story of Restoration Tabernacle Church, formerly known as Chicago Tabernacle, often begins. In 2002, Pastor Al and Chrissy Toledo arrived in Chicago, ready to answer God’s call. They connected with a group yearning for a church and a pastor. Chicago Tabernacle was born. They started in the basement of an old church. The space was cramped, limiting their growth. They dreamt of a new home, a place where more souls could find Jesus. They prayed for a miracle. And a miracle they received. In just seven days, they secured a down payment, a mortgage, and a new building at 4201 N. Troy. This event became known as “The 7 Day Miracle” in the church’s history. Restoration Tabernacle Church continued to grow. They launched community outreaches like “The Story of Love”, a dramatic presentation sharing God’s love. This strengthened the church community and their passion for sharing the Gospel. In 2005, the growing congregation moved to John B. Murphy Elementary School. For several years, Chicago Tabernacle operated as a “moving tent.” This solidified the importance of service as a core value within the church. The church continued to adapt and expand its ministries. They transformed their Vacation Bible School into “Kids Week of Adventure,” a vibrant program incorporating arts and music. This attracted artists and creatives, further shaping the identity of Restoration Tabernacle Church. By 2007, the church’s mission crystalized: to be a “place of becoming” for those seeking to know and serve God. They focused on pursuing God, showing love, and serving others. In 2010, they returned to the Troy building, now holding multiple services. They also renovated the lower level, creating CT’s Playhouse, a dedicated space for children’s worship. The church continued to grow and dream bigger. Inspired by Matthew 6:10, they launched “The 6:10 Building Project” in 2013, aiming to create a space for nurturing the next generation, preaching through the arts, and deepening their connection with God’s word. Finally, in 2015, Restoration Tabernacle Church moved to its current location at 3231 N. Cicero. They experienced significant growth, witnessing countless lives transformed by faith. The prayers and dreams of the past had been realized, paving the way for an even brighter future.
