The Resimen III Pasukan Pelopor is under the command of the Head of the Brimob Corps. Its job is to train personnel. It also deploys its forces when the Kakor Brimob Polri orders. The Resimen III Pasukan Pelopor handles crowd control. It also fights insurgency. This ensures domestic security.
The history of the Resimen III Pasukan Pelopor traces back to 1995. A letter from the Chief of Police requested approval for the structure of the Brimob. In 1996, the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Indonesia issued a decree. This established the Brimob Corps.
The Chief of Police at the time, Letjen Polisi Drs Dibyo Widodo, also issued a decree. This ratified the Brimob Corps. It became a central implementing body at the Mabes Polri level. It was under the Chief of Police. The organizational structure was implemented. This was in accordance with the Pangab Decree of September 10, 1996.
The Brimob Corps became operational no later than October 5, 1996. The construction of bases and facilities was carried out gradually. This depended on the priority and budget of the National Police. Two Brimob Regiments were then formed.
Resimen I Brimob consisted of four battalions. Each battalion had four companies. It also had a support company. Its base was in Kedung Halang Bogor. Resimen II Brimob consisted of four Gegana Detachments. Its base was at Mako Korbrimob Kelapadua Cimanggis Depok.
Resimen I Brimob had a battalion based at Mako Korbrimob Kelapadua. This battalion became the framework for the establishment of Resimen III Pelopor. This was in December 1999. It is now known as Satuan III Pelopor.
The Resimen III Pelopor includes several battalions. These are Batalyon A, Batalyon B, Batalyon C and Batalyon D.

Kombes Pol Drs Nandang Jumantra served from 2005 to 2008. Kombes Pol Drs Bonifasius Tampoi served from 2008 to 2010. Kombes Pol Drs Suroso M served from 2010 to 2011. Kombes Pol Drs Verdianto IB served from 2011 to 2013. Kombes Pol Drs Setyo Boedi MH, SH served from 2013 to 2014. Kombes Pol Drs Uden Kusuma Wijaya, SH served from 2015 to 2016. Kombes Pol H Agustri Heriyanto, SH, SIK, served from 2016. Kombes Pol Hendrik Budhi Prasetyo served from 2023-2024. Kombes Pol Wahyu, SIK, served from 2024 to the present.
