“Glow, Grow and Go.” That is the vision for Remuera Baptist Church. Imagine standing before Remuera Baptist Church. This church is more than just a building. It is a community hub with a rich history. Remuera Baptist Church has been serving Auckland for many years. The foundation stone was laid on March 26 1926. The church opened its doors in August of that year.
Let’s step back in time. Picture the Remuera of the 1920s. The community gathered with hope. They were ready to build a place of worship. It took ten years of consultation and fundraising. Recently Remuera Baptist Church underwent much-needed structural repairs. It also had upgrades and a general facelift.
Remuera Baptist Church isn’t just for adults. It also has a strong youth ministry. This ministry meets on Friday nights. The church also runs a kindergarten on-site during the week. This doubles as Sunday school during weekend services. A Chinese language service is held on Sunday afternoons at 2 pm. This reflects the diverse community it serves.
The church believes in the true humanity and Deity of Jesus Christ. It also believes in the atonement made on the cross for the sin of the world. They acknowledge the Holy Spirit. He empowers and imparts spiritual gifts to the church. The inspiration of the Bible is also important. It provides authority in all matters of faith and practice. Remuera Baptist Church practices membership of the church for the regenerate. They believe in the immersion of believers as the scriptural form of water baptism.
One visitor described the pre-service atmosphere as a quiet hum of expectation. Sunlight streams through the eastside windows creating a lovely place to sit. The all-ages morning worship service is a welcoming experience. A friendly older couple handed out newsletters. The service includes music. Instruments include an organ a keyboard a bass guitar and even a ukulele.
The sermons are biblically based. One sermon focused on Ezekiel’s vision. It highlighted that God is in control. Beauty and peace are at the centre of the vision. This vision is for the new phase of the church after its recent renovations. After the service there is a selection of juices hot tea and coffee. Biscuits and slices are also available.
Remuera Baptist Church is closely linked to the kindergarten. Twice a year the Pastor runs special Church services. These services encourage participation of the children. The Pastor and Elders are available on request. They provide personal support and guidance to the Kindergarten families.
